Reputation Points are like a 'kudos!' or a 'good job!' that another user might give you in reference to a post. To give rep, click on the scale on the upper right had corner of the user's post. Enter in positive (or negative, but use wisely!) reputation and your comments, if any.

To check your rep points, go to your User Control Panel and scroll past any thread subscriptions you have. You can also view your points by clicking on the scale in your own post.

Users can give up to 50 rep points per day, and must rep 10 people before giving rep to the same person.

Please be sure to spread your rep points around!! Repping the same people is fun, but it's also fun to surprise someone with a little bit of sunshine.

An added note regarding negative reputation:

When PW opened, it was agreed amongst the founding members that negative reputation would only be given as a joke or in a playful manner. Since reputation points don't add up to anything and member level promotions are not based upon reputation, they really are just a fun game-like function of the board.

Negative reputation had been placed on hiatus, however it has been turned back on. PLEASE remember that we do NOT use negative reputation to down the members here. It is the policy of the admin staff that we will not encourage or support such passive aggressive tactics. If you have issues with a post, feel free to pm, email, or post to that member to let them know your issue. We will not and cannot stand behind members hiding behind a red mark that can't be responded to.

If it becomes impossible to function on the board without passing out negative comments via reputation, your ability to give reputation will be removed.

This sort of explains the system.... sort of... http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=656507&postcount=45

First the easy one, putting 0 for any of the factors, will effectively disable that factor from having any effect on reputation power (how much a user gives and takes). Also, giving negative reputation only takes 1/2 of what positive would give, the value you see listed when you edit a user in the admin cp.

As for the dots, there is no chart for this since normally a user isn't supposed to actually know what a series of dots translates to in numeric terms. Just that bright green dots are better than dark green dots and the more dots you have, the higher the reputation. Having any bright dots at all means you have a higher reputation than someone who only has dark green dots. Same thing with the red dots, just in reverse.

The maximum number of dots you will see is 11 (in the current system).

Reputation

-99 to 0
0 to 99
100 to 199
200 to 299
300 to 399
400 to 499

Once you hit 500, you will start gaining bright green dots on top of the 5 dark dots but it takes twice as much to gain a bright green dot.

500 to 699
700 to 899
900 to 1099
1100 to 1299
1300 to 1499
1500 and up

Negative values work pretty much the same way except it shows balanced (grey dot) from -99 to 0. I've just changed the code to only show balanced if your reputation is 0, less than 0 and it will show red dots. Some other things that I will be adding will be for you to be able to alter how often the dots show up so you can better adjust the system if you expect to have high or low reputation values.

*shrugs*

it says purple is -999 to0 but the only neg rep I have is red. Confuzzled. I posted at the Admin Board to see if I can be enlightened. No one has a purple?

When I'm looking at that the -99 to 0 looks gray - are we looking at the same thing? I thought if someone with <5 posts gives you rep it is gray.

I knew someone would know....

Its actually grey and it means the person neutrally affected your rep because they are not powerful enough to give or take reputation yet.

Oh, well never mind I can live without the purple rep. :D
