View Full Version : need help with a family party-- how to keep potstickers warm?
I am having a big family gathering this Friday, for my 3 kids birthdays (since they are in Oct and Dec, we combine the party in Nov)
My menu is:
-yakisoba (stirfried noodles with ham, cabbage, mushrooms, ect-- a Japanese dish)
-lumpia (thin crisp egg roll type things from the Philippines)
-Asain Chicken salad
I want to serve gyoza (potstickers) but I can't figure out how to do it. I need to steam them, then keep them warm and not stuck together to serve 45 people. help?

Rachael Ray just did a show not too long ago with those and she did them a cool way. Let me see if I can find it.
oh great!
My in-laws eat very boring food, so I am sure they will think this is a wierd idea. But the kids requested it, it's thier favorite meal.

Ok, here is what she did:
Cover the bottom of a skillet with softened butter. Arrange pierogis in the pan in a single layer. Add 1 cup water to the pan. Cover pan and place over medium high heat. Cook covered 8 minutes, remove lid and cook out any liquid in the pot.
Let the pierogis "stick" and brown in the butter as the liquid evaporates. Remove crisp pierogis from heat to a plate.
I guess you would have to do them in batches if you are making a lot. And these are one my favorite foods too! I could eat 2 whole boxes of them myself.

That is my kind of party food! :eat:
Ok, I have a roaster with the buffet server (well, I don't but my neighbors does :right: and I can borrow it)
I thought maybe I could steam a few batches, and line the roaster with the non-stick foil (is it really non-stick or do I need to spray it?) and keep them warm.

The non-stick foil rocks. Well worth the money.
How about after you steam them up, put them in the oven on lowest temp with a damp towel over them? :dunno:
I  pot stickers.
*calculates driving time to Kate's*
drive's not too far-- and tons of homemade Asian food. :D Friday at 5.

Hmm. About 2.5 hours. See if you can round up Lizz and Mac and Tina and Mootz and all the other Midwest girls.
PS. Will the wood burner fit in the back of my Grand Am? :right:
no problem, you can borrow Rob's truck to bring it home :D
If anyone ever wants to do this-- I figured it out.
I steamed them, then layed a wet paper towel in an elecetric skillet on warm. Layed the gyoza on the towel, and it worked, even stacked 4 layers deep witha paper towel between each layer.
