I don't know WTF I'm doing wrong but whenever I make a pot of coffee it is nasty no matter what water to coffee ratio I use. No matter if I use Folgers or Millstone or Starbucks. But when I go somewhere else....it always tastes good (almost always).

How do you make it?

Cold water. 1 Tablespoon of coffee for every "cup" of water. :dunno:

Toastmaster....

I usually use the individual teabag type that you microwave and those come out great! But they are sooooo expensive so I was looking to save money.

Hmm...I don't know. The funny thing is I've never really liked the individual tea bag kind... :dunno:

For GOOD coffee you want fresh beans & a grinder. COLD water, preferrably filtered - especially if you have off tasting heavily clorinated tap water. If the pot is ancient & possibly crusty run a pot of heavily vinegar'ed water thru it & then clear water again twice more to de-funk it. Make sure the filter part is scrubbed clean of crusties, prefferably NOT with soap - an toothbrush works really well. Did it come with a gold filter? use that sucker, coffee will be much better.

For ground coffee...is the coffee old? has it sat around in a metal container or any container with alot of air in it? probably old & stale then, try some new. The strength you use will vary wildly based on how strong YOU like your coffee. You may have to experiment with a few pots til you get it right.

After brewing, before you pour stir it to mix in the oils. Don't let it sit on the burner for hours. If you have a carafe pre-heat it with HOT water & pour your coffee in that. The burner makes it go rancid & icky pretty quickly because it continues to heat & cook the coffee.

PS we use a little under 1/2 a cup ground or whole bean (before grinding) for a full pot.

French Press. Best. Coffee. Ever.

Not as difficult or time consuming as it seems. Promise.
