View Full Version : Dry Sugar

My brown sugar has dried out. I suspect *someone* put it away without closing the liner in the box...so last night when I went to use it, it was completely dry and hard. Brown sugar is hard to come by here...they have it, but the good stuff is usually hidden away and I have to search for it. Fortunately, I stocked up the last time I bought it, so last night's discovery didn't mean I couldn't make my oatmeal cookies!

So...anyway...is there anything I can do to fix my hard, dry brown sugar? I've put it in an airtight container for now...but is there anything I can do to re-moisten it?

TIA!!

Microwave it a little bit. Also put some bread in the container with it. The bread thing might only keep it soft. I don't know if it will soften hard brown sugar.

My mom's fix for this is to put the sugar in a sealed container with some apple slices.

That's what I've heard, too.

Thanks everyone. I don't have a microwave...I know...what century am I living in?!? So, I'll try the bread thing. If that doesn't work I'll go with apples.

Thank you!!
