What's on the menu? :D

Stuffing and yams are my favorites. I usually add dried cranberries and diced Granny Smith apples to the stuffing. Yams I do different every year.....I like to experiment.

ohhh....and the next-day turkey sandwich. On a croissant with a mayo, stuffing and cranberry sauce. *drool*

mashed potatoes and gravy....meh, I never even taste them.

Chorizo cornbread stuffing and a potato casserole with yukon gold potatoes, mushrooms, and blue cheese will be two unique items we'll make this year. The in-laws will be here so we're doing something different. Plus turkey, green bean casserole, crab dip and shrimp for football snacks, and desserts like pumpkin pie and persimmon pudding.

mmmm.....that potato casserole sounds yummy.

The regular stuff, I guess. :dunno:

I don't really care about TG food, I'm not sure why...my mil does make the only kind of stuffing that I like, it's a sausage stuffing. (I don't really care for the rest of her meal, tho, except dessert /mean dil)

I'm not sure who's house we're eating at this yr, we might eat at my dad's. My stepmom, Jane, is a consistantly good cook. Nothing of hers stands out, tho, because she's always changing things up.

I like the next day better...turkey sandwiches. :eat:

We don't know where we're eating either. We're still thinking about leaving town. Russ is just not feeling it this year.....it's making me sad. His dad's gf ended up having to work so she's not coming down. I figured we'd have dinner with his dad now, but Russ doesn't to want to. He said he's cool with pizza for dinner.:(

(((Russ))) This is such a hard time for him. :(

Amy

I'm not used to him feeling so discouraged. It's kinda freaking me out, I'm usually the needy one. :(

Amy

I totally fucked up my thread.

It's ok. You're allowed to jack your own thread. :D

Re: Russ

It will pass. Plus it's good for your relationship to change things up once in a while. He's lucky to have you to lean on. :)

Ya, it's just weird. We should find somewhere to go. I remember wanting to run away after my dad died. I think that is how he's feeling.....like he'd like to just pass over the holiday season. I'm sure he's not the only one.

poor Russ :(

I love sweet potatoes but no icky marshmellows on top. I like the pecan strusel ones

My mom always made creamed pearl onions-- eww. but it isn't Thanksgiving without them.

This year it is Rob's family's turn. So off to MIL's I guess, sheis a pretty good cook but puts giblets in the stuffing. I almost gagged one year. I now avoid the stuffing.

I don't like them with marshmallows either! Brown sugar, pineapple, apples, pecans........mmmmmmm

Rebecca

No, he's not. *sigh* I can totally relate. I really really really wish I could skip TG, too, but, well, I can't. What I want from David is to listen to what I want/need AND to take charge of the situation, so I don't have to think about it too much. Maybe that's what Russ wants, too?

Did you know that I haven't seen David's side of the family pretty much all yr? I don't really care if I do, either. Isn't that terrible?

:barf:

:D

The only sweet potatoes I like are Jane's. Not yams, but sweet potatoes, a little cinnamon, a little nutmeg, some cream, some butter and pecans. :eat:

Thanks. I think that's what I'll have to do. I've been kinda getting that vibe, but I'm so used to him having the final say. Time to take some of the pressure off of him.

I totally appreciate your advice and I'm soooo sorry that you are having to deal with this crappy McCrap.

Rebecca

:) It's funny, in that way, Russ and I are alike. I am usually the one who has the final say, too. I think it confuses Dave when I make him take charge, too. :p

I've decided I am spending it alone. My cousin is getting married which means the WHOLE White Family will descend upon Atlanta, but I just don't feel like seeing people and celebrating. I know, selfish. I have always avoided weddings, though.

Last year I was alone and made myself a feast to feed upon for 3 days. This year I am not even making a feast. I just don't feel like it.Thanksgiving is not a holiday I really love and I'm not much for holiday food.

I'll probably be doing some sort of protein thing so I'll get a few of those rotisserie chickens to gnaw on all weekend, get some movies to watch, a project to do, and veg out.

It's up in the air for us this year. The only constant is that I will be cooking. I haven't planned the menu yet...I'm tired of the same old same old.

I'm going to make little appetizers filled with different flavored poop and bring them by Kaiser ICU as a little treat for all the RN staff. I'll probably do the same for Christmas too. [/completely childish anger filled response]

Do you flavor the poop after or just alter what you eat to change it?

My mom cooks Thanksgiving dinner every year, and it's one thing she is super duper good at.

Same menu every year:

- Big ass perfectly cooked Turkey
- Mashed potatoes with homemade gravy
- Candied Yams (My absolute favorite!)
- Baked beans
- Fresh baked bread
- Homemade stuffing (so good!)
- And my dad's favorite - cranberry sauce jelly out of the can with the can marks on it!

And my dad makes a pumpkin pie and a chocolate pie.

I'm jealous that you guys get to stay home. I don't think I'll ever get to have my own thanksgiving. Too many family obligations.

Whatever's on the buffet at the Stone Mountain Inn. :D Usually, it's a HUGE spread and good too. It's just my parents and I since my sister and BIL always spend Thanksgiving with his family in south Georgia, so we don't cook a Thanksgiving meal.

For me:
Eggplant Lasagne
Green salad
Low Carb Tiramisu

For DH and anybody else that shows up:
BBQ Jerk Chicken
Pork Roast
Rice and Peas
Potato Salad
Biscuits
Whole wheat garlic pasts

Apple Pie
Marble Cake
Ice Cream

Definitely NOT traditional but we don't like holiday food
