I've been using my friend's old dutch oven (rectangular stick proof removeable container on a hotplate) & I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! it's old & creaky tho, the off switch doesn't work so I have to unplug it to turn it off. It will get a whole pot of stuff & liquid BOILING within an hour, which is sweet because I usually get my goodies to boiling then turn it down some & let it cook the other 3-5 hours til dinner.

My question is...this is the first dutch oven I've ever played with. Are they all normally like this? The crockpots I had would NEVER have boiled anything in a million years & would take hours just to get liquids hot! Maybe I just had crappy crockpots (had 3) but they all were aggrivating unless they had 10 hours to cook, seriously.

Is mine just on turbo because it's old? I'm dreading it dying, and it will sooner or later, I use it 3-4 times a week. So I'd like to start scoping out replacements before it croaks.

I think I found it again  it's a West Bend, Amazon has several varieties for $30-100. Whwhoohoo!!! I didn't know you could use these things on the stovetop as well? DAYUM! Not sure about the one I have currently so I won't try it. That would be great to be able to quick sear a roast before adding veggies & spices to cook.
