Do you think I can substitute Grill Mates Tomato, Garlic and Basil Marinade (powdered) for Knorrs Tomato Basil Soup Mix (also a powder)? Knorrs doesn't make the soup mix anymore and it was a favorite of ours for making a Tomato Basil dip by adding sour cream and mayo to the powdered mix).

Knorr Tomato Basil soup mix
Ingredients:
Dried tomatoes, potato starch, modified milk ingredients, corn syrup solids, sugar, hydrolyzed corn protein, canola oil, salt, onion powder, modified corn starch, autolyzed yeast extract, dried basil and parsley, spices, potassium phosphate, sodium silicoaluminate, silicon dioxide and sulphites.

Grill Mates® Tomato Garlic & Basil Marinade
Salt, Tomato, Garlic, Modified Corn Starch, Sugar, Spices And Herbs (Including Basil), Tomato Concentrate, Butter [Cream (Milk), Salt], Cultured Part-Skim Cow's Milk, Nonfat Dry Milk, Citric Acid, Vegetable Oil (Olive, Coconut, Canola, Sunflower, Rice Bran), Extractives Of Paprika, Natural Flavor, Disodium Phosphate, Enzymes, Extractives Of Garlic.

Unfortunately, I think it will be way too salty. :(

Darn...it smells so much like it. I may try a tiny batch and see. Paige requested the dip with chips for an appetizer on Thursday.

I think you should go light on it. Kinda like the difference between garlic powder/garlic salt.

Lipton makes cup-a-soup in tomato. Maybe that, with some dried basil would work?
