Dave wants to have his colleages and their spouses and kids to our house for dinner sometime this summer. I want to have kind of a "theme" in my head as far as what the menu is.

Here are my constraints:
feed 10-12 adults
feed 4 kids
1 adult is a vegetarian
1 child is a vegetarian
no hamburger/hot dog/brat/potato salad type meal
must use grill
obviously, kid-friendly

My thought, which, I need to know, is it weird? AND please provide other suggestions.

have ingredients out (multiple kinds of meat and veg cut up and various sauces/marinades) for shish-ka-bobs. Then, have pasta, rice, pita pockets, spinach rolls out to put the cooked ka-bob to be placed onto after cooking. Also, have hummus for some extra protein, salad-like fixings, etc.

weird?

I've done the Mediterranean type dinner party and it's always a hit. You could also make Tabouleh and I've posted a recipe for a brown rice salad that is SO yummy that would go well with it.

We did something similar for Christmas Eve dinner. Grilled lamb chops, hummus and falafel, grape leaves. :eat:

Yours sounds delish.
