cut an onion without it making you cry?
And don't tell me not to open my mouth, b/c that shit doesn't work.
If you put them in the freezer for a little bit it helps.

place a cracker in your mouth (to the roof of your mouth)
and just keep it pressed there
I've tried it. It works
p.s. That's why I love Vidalia Onions.. it doesn't make you cry.. I think any sweet onion is like that.

My DH swears that looking at running water will stop you from tearing up. I haven't tried it yet tho, keep forgetting!

Last week I ran across an onion that someone had stuck in the fridge. I was surprised it didn't make me tear up...I always tear up...maybe something about it being cold?

Did you know that a vidalia onion has more sugar in it than an orange? /food tv nerd
Do you know how to cut an onion quickly thus reducing tears. The planks, vertical slices and the dice. That works really well for me and is fast.

I use one of those pampered chef dicer things. That way I get it done quick and it doesn't bother me so much.

I've also heard that if you look left...then right..then spit in front of you...throw salt behind you and scream "Don't cut ANGRY!"...
That helps.

I ALWAYS keep my onions in the fridge, so they rarely make me tear up unless they are those yellow ones & I suspect they are getting ancient. I do think keeping them cold helps alot.
