Best place to buy them? Online? Best Buy? Circuit City?
What has been your favorite? Which would you throw against the wall?

My dell was ok. Not meaty enough, but that was my fault for not getting a better one. I love my hp...which we got at costco. When we are in the market, Dave watches and watches and watches the sales until he finds the one he wants for the price he wants. Too much work for me.

Right??
See - we had an Apple desktop for a day and a half. I got frustrated because I didn't know what the heck I was doing so we took it back.
I  my Acer from Circuit City. I would  to have thrown my HP Compaq at a wall.

I have an HP, it is fine, it has lasted for about 2 years now. I had the plug problem but I took it apart and tweaked it. I got mine at Costco.
I have HP.
I had Toshiba. The AC adapter outlet dislodged itself from the electical board thingy. Ian took it apart an saudered it 3 times. But then it just died one day. After a battery of very scientific tests....*ahem* it was discovered there was a temp sensor problem. We found that out when Ian put the laptop in the freezer and it booted right up.

Whatever laptop you decide to purchase, I'd suggest an extended warranty (so you don't have to go sticking your laptop in the freezer :D )

:WORD: We've had so many problems with both of our laptops. Dell has a great warranty...too bad we had to use it so often.
 Ian is a genius.
There's a fine line......
I have a Gateway and had problems with it just a few months after I bought it. Since then it's been fine, but it was terrible dealing with them and they lost it while repairing it and didn't seem concerned, so I still wouldn't buy another one. Typically I've had good luck with HP, but I've never had a HP laptop.

I have a Dell, love it. I also have an A/C adapter problem(s). First, I'm on my third cord, the transformers keep burning out. :dunno: Also, for the second time, the adaptor outlet is a *little* broken. I have to turn the cord just right for it to work (and God forbid the kids brush up against it :nono:), and it won't charge the battery(which meant, if the cord got wiggled, the laptop immediately shut down ). I've had it fixed once, but I've been procrasting taking it in again. However, I recently bought an external battery charger, so now I just keep one battery charged at all times. :D

We have 5 Dells in our house right now, 2 desktops and 3 laptops. We have never had a problem with any of them. Right now we have coloured laptops from Dell. Mine is pink and Dave's is blue. :D

I have had a number of A/C adapter/power problems with my Dell too. I just had the power jack on the computer replaced last week and then a few days later the cord (my 2nd) died on me. I never thought to buy an external battery charger. That's a great idea.

Mac lover here as well. My laptop is about 5 years old and with the exception of a keyboard issue, it has been running solid. Kimberly just bought the new Mac Air and loves it.
I agree about the extended warranty. Especially with Till around. Things will just happen.

We thought about getting an external battery thingymabob. So - how much does it usually run to repair the power jack whackadoodle?

What Mac did you get, Heather?
I'm in the market for a new laptop since our desktop is on the fritz.

To replace my power jack it was $99 for labor and $20 for the jack itself, so $119 total.
I forgot to add...my current laptop is a Dell and it has been awesome. I've had it for almost 3 years and the only problem I've had is that I need a new battery now.
If I don't buy a Mac (although I'm pretty sure I will since Windows is getting on my nerves), I will get a Dell.

MA - Really?? That's it??? Did you send it into Dell (that's who you have, right?)
I'm thinking of taking out the hard drive and sending ours into Gateway and telling them to fix their POS POS. I'm so frustrated.
