I am still pretty newly obsessed - but definitely obsessed. I crave it - um daily.
I began with some cooked salmon thing one night with clients.
Moved along to a Philly roll (cream cheese, salmon, avocado) - and am now to a dragon roll - crab with eel and avocado on top.
It's quite expensive in this area as the fish has to be flown in daily. And aside from fish - i swear they must put crack in it - because i am sooo addicted.
I'm considering learning to make some basic rolls. Anyone tried that?

Not me, I don't even like cooked sea food.

I like sushi, but I mostly like the vegetarian rolls and the cooked ones. The texture of raw fish is icky to me. I've thought about trying to make it, but I have heard it takes a long time to master. There are kits though.

I like tame sushi.
Like what? California roll?
I like the cooked stuff. Raw squicks me out.

LOVE sushi. I'm pretty mild, though. Mostly, I like california rolls, dragon rolls, etc.
The only uncooked thing I have tried is Sashimi. It's good. You have to like the raw fish texture.
I think the wasabi is what I'm addicted to.
Oh. And I once tried to make a low carb california roll using diced egg whites to substitute rice. :indiff: Don't. even. go. there.

I love all sushi and sashimi and ahem have made california rolls that actually resemble the real thing. (But you already knew that LOL)

Sushi & sashimi were my lunch today :eat:
I bought Tanner one of those kits... he figured it out in a beginner kind of way.

Oh to make a low carb roll you can roll shredded cucumber, carrot and sprouts instead of the rice. Just layer the sprouts first as they seem to hold best, then a bit of the cuke and carrot then avocado and crab or shrimp or pickles if you don't want fish. It needs a bit of mayo to keep it moist but they are good.

I hate to commercialize this, but I have tried california rolls from all over and Coscto has a damn good party size plattery for 14.99.
My girlfriend and I used to plan a night over that platter and a bottle of wine.

i'm so damn jealous. I'm totally ready to blow hickville. I pay a lot for what i get here so i try to plan carefully.
I've had the dragon roll, philly roll and rainbow roll in addition to california roll. I tried some individual sushi pieces (non-roll) with eel.
It's so fresh and much lighter than what i was eating - feels healthier at least :) I really like mixing the wasabi with soy - so gawd only knows how much water i'm retaining.
I like sake too :D :boobies:
I love sushi. I have made it at home. Its a lot of work. Not too hard, but just really time consuming.
My favorites are:
spicy tuna roll
eel
dragon roll
yellowtail sashimi
tuna sashimi

What's the yellowtail like?
The dragon roll where you get it/make it - what's in it?
TIA :)

Costco sushi is great and cheap.
I am lucky in that there are like dozens of cheap sushi places within a few miles of my house. I swear Vancouver is the sushi capitol of the world.

I used to make sushi a lot before I started low carbing.
I started out with sushi kits from the supermarket that included everything except the filling. ie. rice, nori, rice vinegar, and mat. I didn't think they were too hard to make. Now I just buy it all separately when I make it because I have a few of the rolling mats.
I only like cooked stuff, and nothing too icky. Eel = Icky to me.
I like roast beef, chicken, tofu, mushroom & omlette sushi best. No seafood for moi.
Hmmmm. I wonder if I could mail a kit overseas ...
If you'd like me to try I'll definately give it a go. They really aren't that expensive and are quite light.

I LOVE sushi but it is so expensive around here, I don't get it that often. I'm with Alie and like the spicy tuna, salmon/avocado, fatty tuna, eel, tobiko, yellowtail.
Have you tried seaweed salad yet? I really like that as well.
I have also made sushi and maki's at home. Not too hard to do.
Kyle has ALWAYS loved salmon sashimi. I mean like from the time he was 6 or so. People really get freaked out by that for some reason.

Yellowtail is a really mild, firm white fish. That is the only kind of sashimi I can do. DJ loves toro, which is tuna belly. It is pure fat...very rich. I can't do it. I don't like salmon sashimi either for the same reason.
The dragon roll I like has tempura shrimp and avacado. :homerdrool:

I really like sushi and shashimi too. I usually pick it up at Whole Foods market on my way home from work on Friday nights. I've been thinking about getting a kit and trying it myself.
If anyone wants to make it I have a great fool proof recipe for the rice I can post. That is the most important part.

I lurve sushi. Since I'm theoretically LC'ing (although not today :( ) I go to sushi restaurants and order edamame, agadashe tofu and then a platter of the day's sashimi. It's not cheap, but I love, love, love it! I love all the rolls too, but actually like the raw stuff

ooh i want to try the yellowtail. I think I'm allergic to shellfish - one weekend when i don't have an insane week following (i have 5 clients in town next week  ) I'm going to test it with Benadryl and an Epipen on hand.
LOVE it
I knew I liked you :D

Wicked jealous you have a whole paycheck dammit. There is no sushi at any store here - all they have is gravy and stuff to bread whatever you're going to fry. :getyou:

Sign me up for the PW sushi/sashimi meetup! :yum:
The only thing I don't eat are any rolls with cream cheese. And, I ate too many salmon skin rolls once, so now I never get them anymore.
Who's willing to give me sake lessons? I've never had it, but always wanted to try it.

I'm incredibly jealous!
Yesterday I tried a spider roll here. Lump crab meat, some kind of radish and avocado.

Nope sorry I have 32 within a few kilometers of my house :boobies:
I think we need a sushi task force to tour the continent and check out the fare.
I just bought Philly Rolls at the store. :eat:
