Music stores have pretty good deals going now since kids are starting band in school. They usually have used ones. eBay is a good idea, too.

All I can think of is American Pie 2 when Allison sticks a trumpet in Jim's (Petey!) ass.

Sorry. That's really not a help is it? BUT! It may be a reason not to buy off ebay. :D

Just make sure you buy a new mouthpiece, no matter who you buy from.

We got our instruments from the local music store.

We bought ours from a local music store. It is a student one (new) and was like $800. *faint* We're doing the rent-to-own thing....mostly because Anthony was hauling it to school every day and they provide replacement insurance. I pay $30 a month, I think.

:jawdrop: ... $800!

I have decided I don't love Fred that much. Maybe I will get him something else. I had no idea instruments cost that much!

Neither did I. We originally bought one from Costco....for $200. It was a huge PITA, so I brought it back. The one he has now is apparently very good....or so I hear, he rarely practices.

I just checked ebay

http://instruments.search.ebay.com/trumpet_Brass_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR8QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsacatZ16212

seems they go for about $75-300, but most end up about 100.

As I recall, Conn is a good brand for brass instruments. HTH

Have you checked pawn shops?

A Kazoo is pretty reasonable!

oh, no Kazoos. He'll bring that thing over here and play it and I'll have to smack someone.

I haven't really started looking, since I was thinking I'd get it for Christmas. He used to play HS and College Band, pretty well. Had a trumpet and lost it or something and he was thinking about buying another one to pick it back up, again. It would be cool if I could surprise him with one.
