I've had to replace two Sunbeams in two years. Don't want to buy another. What kind do you have? I was looking at this (http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/jump.jsp?itemID=6357&itemType=PRODUCT&searchid=inceptor) but DANG - so expensive!! I kind of think I'd make up for it in heating costs, since I spend a lot of time in my bedroom anyway. I just want something that will freaking last more than one season, and Sunbeam ain't doing it for me.

I received a mattress pad heater last year for Christmas. I like it a lot! It goes on the mattress under the fitted sheet. Mine has dual controls for each side of the bed. I'm not sure how much they cost though.

Dave won't let me buy one.

It's fine when he's home, but when he's not, which is half the time, I freeze!

I just realized I'm making Dave sound like a jerk. It's just that he's such a hot sleeper...And I do manage when he's gone...I just bundle up more.

Mmmm...WOW!

I've been using an electric plaid laprug I got at Walmart for $15? for over 3 years now. It goes nonstop about 80% of the time in the winter (too lazy/forgetful to turn it off when I get up) covers 1/2 a kingsized bed. Works great & has a dial for setting low to hot & everything.

Check out one of those. That way when you get hot you can kick it off or shove it to the side without having a mountainous thermal blanket to clamber out from under.

PS it's also machine washable too. It doesn't get as hot as a "real" blanket but if it's under a cover it gets DAMN hot! which logically is where you want it anyhow, between the sheet & your real blanket.

EDIT: DH said I was wrong we paid about $25 for the laprug. I didn't think it was that much but it's been a few years. Hmmm. Also flax seed beanbags are the bomb-diggity!!!! I'm madly in love with ours  I got it for DH's back but it's a great bed warmer & very nice during TOM for achy bellies. I've started firing it up almost every night (I stay cold) mmmmm! No more cold feet in bed ;)

forget those electric blankets--buy a good quality down comforter. Overstock usually has them cheaper.

They are almost wieghtless (my kids call them cloud blankets) and so snuggly, warm in winter and still perfect in the fall and spring.

My DH has been to 2 house fire started by electric blankets, one of the fires was fatal.

Be careful

I put mine on an electric timer at the wall. Otherwise I'd forget and leave it on all day. I'm allergic to down, so that's out.

Thanks for the link, K! :)
