That looks fun!!
That is the coolest thing I've ever seen!
I bet my stomach is still red from the 'Red' flavored kool aid i drank as a child.

I know!
I can't believe it can actually be used as a dye.
Fun! I would make a huge mess if I tried to do that

For some reason, its way impressive to me that the yarn sucks out all the color from the kool-aid.
/easily impressed

great job, jen!
Can you easily get tamarindo? I was reading up on it on a blog and am interested in using some.
Actually, Tek got me some Tamarindo in Chicago. But I also have not tried to find it. I imagine I would have to go to a hispanic store. I am sure we have some in town. I actually am not too crazy about the color. I looks like a washed out orange. I used it last night to see how it looked. But I might like it more next time if I pair it with more suitable colors. I am crossing my fingers it looks better when knitted.

I saw that I could get 50 packets of it on ebay, but that's too much. I was reading a blog that said she added it to other colors to tame them down.
What are you making with this yarn?
I have no clue what I am going to do with it.
You know me. I am a follower :D and felt the urge to dye when I read Lisa was going to. No one has taken me up on my offer of free knitting service.

Do you have any ethnic grocery stores near you or anywhere you travel to? I bet it isn't too hard to find. I want to say I even saw it sold on Amazon once upon a time.

I'll take you up on it, I just don't have a baby to measure!!!! :) But if you want to guestimate, I thought your colors were lovely! :D
You colorway reminds me of this:

:D
I wonder if you can do the same way ,vinegar and water with Wiltons, on the stove. I have an idea I want to do with green dip dyeing it.

Maybe we could talk Sarah into measuring Emma ;).

I'll bet my Mom can find it in Indy. I'll check amazon too.
I can't wait to dye again! I want to make a really nice, rich brown w/KA or wiltons. I've been researching it online, but no luck yet. Wiltons by itself came out too light and too orange for what I want for winter.
Wiltons brown doesn't work?
*scratches that one off*
:D

I would think you could do Wiltons on the stove. I bought Cushings Perfection dyes (acid dye for wool) and I did them on the stove just like kool aid. I think the key is that you need to get the water up to 180-190 deg F before you remove the yarn so that the color sets. But you never have to leave it in under the color is exhausted. You can remove it sooner if it is the shade you want.

I made a beautiful brown with Cushings Perfection Dyes. They were not any harder to use than kool aid. The acid is the same, vinegar.
I was going to put some in for a few, then more, then more, so it was gradient.

I am going to try KA. I want a challenge.
Witon's brown is okay. Just not what I want this time.

This guy was great. Follow the instructions in the body to save on shipping. I believe I could buy up to 8 packets without the shipping increasing.

I can't wait to see it. Just be careful. You are supposed to put the yarn in cool water and bring it up to the 190 as the water heats. You don't want to shock the yarn by putting it in already hot water.
Anyone try a hot pour method? That looks interesting.

Hmmm....
I will have to think on that.

The dip dye on that link was very pretty. I did read where she said use superwash so you don't felt it. I have my doubts that it would work with fisherman's wool.
Hot pour looks interesting. I might try that next time to see what colors I come up with.
Here it is all wound up.

Jen I think that looks great!
Emily has that same ball winder... I have yarn balls like that all over :indiff:
I like it. :D
i also need a ball winder.
I like it. :D
i also need a ball winder.
Someone sent you a coupon
:D
I got that. It was an online only thing. I also got my own in my email.
I know it was online only. I don't know if they sell the winders in the store. I bought mine online with a coupon.
Really?
I should talk Cliff into buying me one.
If he has to help unwind/wind many more, I am sure he will.
I would love to have a hank winder, but I just don't do it often enough to have both, so I settled for the ball winder because I hate that one more.
I don't find unwinding too bad if I can find the pull in the center and go inside out. This past one I couldn't find it and I unwound it from outside in, which is a bitch.
I always unwind from the outside. I always end up with a big tangle when I use the center pull.
Hmmm, I do better with center pull. :dunno:
Big Freaking Knot.
Every. Time.
I don't know why.
