View Full Version : My adventures in Forrible.
Jen already has Fugly, so I have to go with Forrible.
First of all, this was a learning experience. :killingme
I knew black wouldn't come out black, and I was ok with that.
I had no clue the blue would do what it did.
First, the yarn soaking.

All dyed.

You can see here, the way it was supposed to be.

Can't wait to see what it looks like all wound/knitted up.
A Rainbow! :confetti:
If that is what you want to call it.
No need to worry about my feelings! it is FUGL....I mean FORRIBLE! :confetti:
Oh, my what a Forrible combination!!!!

What are ya gonna make with it? :D
So, now go to Joann and get some more.
Maybe you could do a FAWFUL while you are on a roll. :run:
Uhhh.....:slow:
Depends on what it looks like knitted up, I guess.
Might be good scrap yarn.
My hands smell like vinegar. :indiff:
I think the cling wrap would have worked better. I didn't understand how the burrito method kept the colors from mixing.

Bitch.
:right:
I was trying to talk Cliff into getting me some more while he was out.
He told me to pace myself. I had all winter.

They didn't really mix. Except where teh black "stripes" were. The blue just came out all funky, and so did the black.
Next time I want to try the soaking way.
wow. that is a lot of color
I am no help on the way you did it because I have never done it that way :dunno:. Maybe more vinegar and more time in the microwave? I have no clue.
Want me to take pics tonight when I dye mine?
Sure. If ya want. (show off :p )
I really didn't think my first try would come out perfect. Especially using dark blue and black.

I think it looks kind of cool! I'm curious to see how it looks knitted
I wasn't trying to show off. I just thought you might like a different option. Personally, I would hate to have to cover everything in plastic and wipe up drips with rags, etc.
I meant showing off because yours won't be ugly.
You do the simmering in seperate jars, right?
Yeah, I simmer on the stove and set one color at a time. Then I rinse it all.
How do you set your color? Microwave?

It's probably gonna look awesome knitted up.
How do you set your color? Microwave?
I will put water in a pot. Add vinegar and kool aid. Then put the yarn in and heat til simmer. I will leave it just below a simmer until the color is exhausted or until it is the shade I like. At this point I am supposed to let the entire pot cool down, to room temperature. But what I do is remove it and set it in another container to cool while I prepare the bath for another section. Then when I am done with all of them, I run hot water in the sink to rinse. I gradually cool the water until I am rinsing with cold. Hang to dry.
The hot water on the stove and the vinegar set the color.
Here are the instructions I use, scroll down to stove top method.

Cool.
And yes, pictures please. :D

One day I'll knit a soaker with it. Maybe I'll have it done by the time Charlotte arrives.
Huh. Those are almost the same colors.
I think I have more orange....
I can't wiat for it to dry so I can wind it into a ball of Forrible.
Forrible might not end up too bad. Mandy pics gives hope :D.
I am on the third color now. I started at 8:30.

I think it looks pretty! :D
I can't wait to see what it knits up like.
I am trying to think of a name....
I like it!!
Moonrise?
Moonshine? :right:
IDKWTFII?
Hopefully some time tonight I will get some knit up.
All I know is I can not wait to do more.
*trying to get some projects done*
Amanda and I told you it was addictive. I go crazy for a while and then I have to back off or DH will divorce me.
I will be winding up mine tonight. I don't have a name for my colorway. Any suggestions?
I will have to see if wound up.
It reminds me of those Pop Ice popsicles now. :D
And Cliff is pretty good at letting me ride out my obsessions. He has learned.
DH nevers says anything, but I can just sense when I have pushed it too far. Usually by that point, I am burned out for a while anyway.
It isn't a money thing more than a time thing. He doesn't like to always be ignored.
If I keep him happy, then trips like this weekend to Daytona where he has to hang out with strangers are much more palatable. :D

The colors remind me of a sunset. :D
I haven't made my mind up yet.
I either love it or hate it.

me thinks you need a bigger swatch to get the 'real' pic of how it will look.
I still like it.

It reminds me of Halloween colors.
I hate swatches. They are a waste of time and yarn.
I will just knit them up, and if they are fulgy, someone will take them on DS.
