I want to learn how.

Is this something you just learn, or do you think I could take a class somewhere to show me the basics?

I know there is a store here called The Stitching Post. THey give lessons.

They even have a "University" that when you "graduate" you get a sewing machine.

I honestly think a friend told me she enrolled her daughter in a few "learn to sew" classes at Joann. Do you have a Joann?

I am having my neighbor help me.

Anyone that can help you?

Not here in Anderson. My mom is in Marion but that's like 45 minutes away.

I really need to keep working on my stuff.

I have fabric for another mei tai, and a flannel/terry cloth blanket, and more diapers.

There aren't enough hours in the day.

If you are looking to just do simple stuff, you can just wing it.

Pinning is the most PITA part. THen, it takes practice to sew a straight line.

Many, many years ago I took a basic sewing class at a local high school. It was well worth it. From that class I have been able to do more advanced things.

NOTE: I am NOT an expert sewer by any stretch. I just truly enjoy it. When I sew, I go to another world and just relax............I even enjoy the pinning

If you could find a basic class, or if you have someone who does sew, they could teach you the basics.

We have an adult vocational school that is part of the public school. I wonder if they have a class.

I need a class to teach me to how to use my sewing machine. I can never remember how to thread the bobbin or anything. I wish I did, I would make some pillows or curtains.

Do the classes at Joann or wherever teach you so that you can use any basic machine or would I only know how to use what they use there?

I just want to know how - i don't want to learn :p

It really is annoying as hell I can't even sew a hem.

Ask everyone you know and the people at Joanns, the other fabric stores or small alteration shops. Someone is going to know someone who does it formally or on their own. I took classes from talented pastor's wife who held classes for 4 to 8 people in her basement.

There are formal classes where you learn something they design and others where you bring your own project.

I bought a book that has projects in it that progressively get more and more difficult. THe first one is just pinning on ribbon to the band of a towel and sewing that down., etc. It ends with an apron or jumper or something.

And no, I cannot find it on amazon :(

home economics class in middle school?/totallly not helpful!

Really that is where I learned to sew as a kid. And Tanner had it in 6th grade last year.

Maybe the home ec teacher in the middle school can give you a name of someone who teaches.
