View Full Version : Mac - cabbage help, please!
I'm playing single mom tonight. I'd like to make something cheap and easy. The easier the better. I usually just have a rotisserie chicken or chef salad on these nights.
But Angie mentioned cabbage rolls and it has me drooling for some cabbage. SO weird. Anyways, Rob hates cabbage, so I could make some tonight.
Help! I need ideas/recipes/something! Do you buy a whole head? How do you cook it up? What spices to add? What meat to add? I don't want to just end up with crackslaw in the end. You had mentioned in a thread that you put butter in it and that sounds so yummy.

Well, here is what I did in case you go this route:
I boiled some water and stuck the whole head in. Just enough to loosen the leaves up. I then put the leaves back in and steamed them until they were tender.
I put 1/2 a pound of ground beef in a bowl with some garlic and chopped up onions and some parmesan cheese and mixed that up.
I then rolled the meat up in the cabbage leaves and put them in a baking dish.
Then I poured a can of diced tomatoes and a can of tomato sauce over them and added some spices and put it in the oven for about 45 mins. or so.
Delish.
Thanks, Angie! Maybe not tonight, but some other night when I feel like taking the time. I love cabbage rolls. I'm just so hungry when I get home!
Fry with ground beef and eat.
Wasn't that Mac's recipe?
I think so, but I'm SO kitchen clueless sometimes. Those directions don't help me much. Hand me a head of cabbage and I'd have no clue where to start. I don't know how to cut it, cook it, or season it.
My guess would be:
Cut the core out. then slice. Brown some ground beef, maybe add a little garlic. (I would drain and rinse the beef but I am weird about grease) Toss cabbage in pan with beef and fry until desired softness. Season with salt and pepper.
But that is just my guess.
Fry with ground beef and eat.

You forgot
sprinkle with cheese
