:boobies: I want to slate a few end tables and maybe a longer thin little table for the kitchen. I've got tons of scrap slate in different sizes/thicknesses (where some pieces split) and we've got oodles of wood to build stuff.

Logistically a slate table would be quite a bit heavier than most, because of the weight of the stone but shouldn't be too bad. I'm thinking they would be nice momentos (as well as look great with the house) while we are here and give me something creative to do with the scraps.

Anyone ever done something like this? suggestions or ideas welcome!!!!!! :boobies:

No, but bet they'd be lovely. You do realize that slate will annihilate any glass placed on it in a less than totally gentle fashion?

I thought about that.....I really like the deep poly layer I've seen on some tables, like on glossy bars, y'know? I think THAT would be killer. Build up a small edge & after grouting & getting pretty then polyurethane (sp?!) it to have a smooth glassy surface.

Either that or the table would have to be small & with fairly big pieces because it would be difficult to get a perfectly smooth & flat surface given the nature of slate.

Some experimentation is definately in order :D
