We always go it the old fashion way--- food coloring and vinegar.

But purple is tough. It always turns out slightly grey.

Do you have better luck with the kits?

you can go to craft stores like AC Moore and get specially mixed food dyes in the cake section. They have several shades of purple that all work nicely.

We always just used the fizzy tablets and vinegar.

But, you have to let the eggs sit for a while if you want them dark.
