I want to go there so bad.

Rebecca

Yeah, I do, too. I'm thinking of taking Dave for his bday. My brother (who owes me some babysitting) lives not far from the downtown one.

Just thinking about that place makes me full.

We don't have one here. :(

Allison

Thank you for that! The dessert is the best part of a meal there.

(with the appetizer coming in second... the entree is just an added bonus).

Thanks! I have been wanting to try that place for a while now.

So. Much. Food.

Go hungry. Don't eat for like 2 days.

Rebecca
10-08-2005, 06:50 PM
Can't you take your leftovers home?

Lisa
10-08-2005, 07:03 PM
Oh. Probably. We were in Texas when we went so we couldn't.

The entree though comes out raw and you cook it so I don't think I would want to take that home.
I would go just for appetizers and dessert.

Good food. The cheese fondue is excellent.

I agree. Go for lunch and just get the appetizer and dessert. Do they have a melting pot in Minnesota....or wherever Emily lives??? :D

Has anyone made fondue at home? Could you use a crockpot for cheese fondue?

Allison
10-08-2005, 09:54 PM
I don't really think a crockpot would work, b/c it seems like the heat needs to be higher - but you can get a cheese/chocolate fondue set for less than $10 at walmart.

Natale
10-08-2005, 09:59 PM
Well, I was wanting to serve the fondue at a party, so I need to fix a larger portion than would fit in an inexpensive fondue set.

I thought a crock might work for a cheese fondue since I wouldn't be trying to cook any meat in it.

Allison
10-08-2005, 10:52 PM
Nat, You probably could... it just might take a little longer for the cheese to melt.

Allison
10-08-2005, 10:54 PM
It would be a neat place for a kid, but the fondue stuff gets HOT. Really hot. Like if you dip your apple in the cheese on the side of the pot, instead of the middle, it will kinda burn your tongue.... but I don't have kids, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Maybe try it first, adults only (and have a chocolate martini) and decide if it's kidlet safe. :)

I'm thinking a $$$$ meal isn't the normal playdate around here. :dunno:

What if I made the fondue on the stove and served it in the crock?

Michele

We used to use a crockpot for nacho cheese at the youth center, so it probably would work for cheese fondue

Allison
10-09-2005, 10:10 AM
That might work, Nat. It just seems like "regular" cheese - that you would use for fondue - requires a higher heat to melt than say Velveeta. But - when you add other stuff to it (white wine, or chicken broth, or whatever) that may help it out.

I'd try it on your own first.

And I loooooooove the Cheesecake Factory. But if you've got moms in your group who have issues with expensive places - the Melting Pot isn't cheap. The Cheesecake Factory, though, has something for everyone, in just about every price range.

I found a crock pot cheese fondue recipe (I don't see how you can go wrong with wine, cheese, and garlic - famous last words) but WTH is kirsch. I don't even know how to pronounce it so how can I ask for it?

Natale
10-09-2005, 10:46 AM
Soooo, is the email from the Melting Pot the coupon, or do they mail something? :dunno:

Natale

I know one translation of my name is cherry. So my name is virgin... :killingme

k

Well that is something...

I don't think Cherry brandy belongs there. I wonder if it really make much difference in the recipe - it only calls for 3 tablespoons.

Of course we make queso :)

I'm thinking more of a swiss cheese type fondue to serve with bread cubes, veggies, and granny smith apple slices for a baby shower. I have a mini crock pot, but I don't have a fondue pot.

Oh! I think kirsch would be lovely. It would add a slight sweetness to the fondue (very slight). Very small bottles of kirsch or DeKuypers cherry brandy can be purchased at a liquor store cheaply.

Kirsch is also lovely poured on vanilla ice cream. :)

Natale

mmmmm cherry brandy on ice cream.....

Allison

that sounds friggin' good!

I've really been thinking about this fondue thing, Nat -and it seems like it would work, but I would definately try it out before hand. It's just a matter of if the crock would stay hot enough to keep the cheese from getting gooky.

I'm hoping I can get out of bringing a snack food altogether.

See, here's the story. I offered to have a "sip n see" for my friend for her new baby, and she told me this other friend was already planning one and she was sending out invitations that day. So I got my invitation, and GUESS WHOSE NAME WAS LISTED AS ONE OF THE HOSTESSES!!!!!!

So I called hostess #1, and I was placed in charge of dessert, which is fine. But then she asked me if I had any ideas for the food, and I suggested a cheese fondue or perhaps some little crostini topped with tomato and cheese. SO THEN the ballsy little witch wants to know if I want to make it!!!! I don't really want to make it, but I will so I need to be prepared to make it.

I did find a crock pot fondue recipe online. It seems to have basically the same ingredients as "regular" fondue. The regular fondue recipes have you make the fondue on the stove and transfer to a fondue pot. I would think an old school candle-heated fondue pot would be MUCH cooler than a crock pot, so I'm actually more worried about it scorching than not getting hot enough, but using a recipe intended for a crock pot would mitigate that I think.

Oh, and since I've completely jacked Amy's thread anyway, I have to tell you about my sweet friend that this party is for. We've been friends for over 30 years, sometimes better than others. Anyways, she knows I'm pretty broke these days and she told me not to buy her a gift. And I told her I'd be damned before I showed up there empty-handed. So she gave me a new-with-tags outfit to wrap up and bring to her.

That's exactly how I feel too!

The next time I go, I think I'd just do the appetizer and dessert.

If I ever go again, I'm only doing appetizer and dessert. The main dish didn't appeal to me, anyways.
