Drain the fat off of your ground beef?

My family would just get a lid, hold it with a towel and drain the fat off.

Seans family would use like a pasta strainer.

How do you do it?

(cooking like 4 lbs of beef, wondering if there is an easier way)

They did a study in which they found you could essentially get most of the fat out of ground beef by rinsing for 5 minutes after cooking.

strainer and rinse-- but not 5 min, but about 1 min.

I use the pot lid, with a husband that uses up to 4 dishes plus a glass at each meal I have enough to wash.

I use the strainer and now that you mentioned it, I think I will start rinsing, too.

I put it in a colander and rinse it quickly.

Into what do you guys strain it? Not into the sink, right??

We have a large pickle jar that we put the grease into and we put that in the freezer. I have a splatter guard that I use instead of using a lid.

yup--right down the drain into the septic system[/bad homeowner]

But we don't really eat ground beef anymore

I use a strainer and rinse it...when my sink is empty. :indiff:

When it's not, I just spoon the most out that I can.

Ok, I have never rinsed it before. I used a stainer.

What do you do with the greese in your freezer? I save bacon greese but ground beef?

Chrissy

yes, I pour it down the drain , but I follow it with boiling water.pretending that makes a difference.

Down the sink with a few big squirts of Dawn dish soap, cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I tried rinsing it a few times.

Ew. I think it really flattened out the taste.

I was reading my garbage disposal manual :indiff: and it said you should rinse with cold water after using because it encourages oil/fat not to stick to the plumbing. :dunno: Before I read that I used hot.

((((Drains)))

Danielle - when the pickle jar gets full, we chuck it :D

Strain and rinse.

Right down the drain.

Strain down the drain.

Never thought to rinse though. Might try it..but could see how the taste might change.

:agree: I'm not sure how I know that, tho. I sure as hell didn't read the manual.

Strain and rinse well. It doesn't change the taste for me at all!

Sometimes drain in to the sink with the lid over the pan....sometimes in to an old glass container.....most times I put a ton of paper towels on a plate and pour the meat and grease on to it so the paper absorbs the grease.

Strain & rinse with hot water for a few minutes. All that fat otherwise makes me queazy  You can buy the el cheapo ground beef then too, after rinsing you've got lean chuck :D
