What do you think of this (http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=25009&PRODID=11794)?

I HATE using hoops, but it's all I have. I have some larger pieces, and some rectangular pieces I'd like to do. But the thought of using a hoop makes me not want to do them.

I'm not sure what's included in this kit, though. I'll probably have to look at it at the store and just wait for another 40% off coupon.

Amazon lists this one (http://www.amazon.com/Needlework-Frame-Makes-Size-Frames/dp/B0007TZYCI/sr=8-11/qid=1158242229/ref=sr_1_11/102-7106425-1415357?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen), but I'm not sure if it's the same one.

Anyone have anything they like better, that's about the same price?

I have one like the one at Joanne's. I use it for needlepoint and a hoop for cross stitch. I actually prefer to hoop because it is small and easier for me to maneuver.

In a past life, when I would do cross stitch, I just used a hoop. I always used a smaller hoop so it was eaiser to manage.

Whoa I love the first one! Never used anything but the hoops before, I haven't cross stitched in years :nono: I really liked it too.

The problem is that the pieces I want to work on are kind of a 6-in-1. There are six different designs, one piece of fabric. If I have it all laid out where I can work on them all together, I think I'd save time. (i.e. do all the reds, then all the greens, etc.)

And I can never get the hoops to where I get the edges of the fabric taut enough and it looks funky. I just don't like hoops. LOL.

With the thing from Joanne's, you need to keep rolling the fabric one way or the other if you want to do all one color then another. That's why I used it for needlepoint because that I work one row at a time vs. color. With embroidery, I work an area at a time so the hoop works for me. And as Red said, I use a small hoop.

About a decade ago, I bought something that looked like that at a fair. It had the roller thing but it also had a thing I could sit on with a clamp on the end to hold the roller thing. Totally hands free. It was nice until one of my kids broke part of it. :getyou: I need to find a dowel the same size and replace the broken piece.

Oh, I wonder if the flea market would carry something? Hmmm....

I ended up getting this today:
http://www.joann.com/shop/shop_zoom.jhtml;$sessionid$4HZ5OMQAAELQOP4SY5NBIHR50LD3OEPO?CATID=25009&PRODID=47142&SKUID=49168&_requestid=287809

It's a 9x18 scroll frame, which I think will be the right size. $11.99 at the store minus 50% with coupon.

That is the one that I use and love it. I also use hoops, but only for smaller projects.
