Beading/Jewelry making

I need to hurry and make a necklace for Freya for her baptism, as we cannot find what we're looking for at a jewelry store (amber beading with a cross pendant). Anyway, I've made a necklace using someone else's tools before, but I don't remember what tools I used.

I'd like to do this quickly and as inexpensively as possible, as I do not plan on picking up beading as another of my many hobbies.

Suggestions on what I need to pick up from the craft store or tools that I can use around the house? I'm just at a loss as to what I need.

I have only gone to a place to make necklaces and other than the 'string' and clasp, the tools seemed like stuff you would have around the house. For instance, needle nose pliers to close the loops on the clasp and pendant, wire cutters if you are using some sort of wire to string the beads, ...

Don't forget when you buy the loop(s) for the pendant to think about the necklace lying on her neck and the pendant on her chest and the direction the loop needs to be in. This can not be straightforward if the pendant 'hole' is against her chest (and not perpendicular to it).

I think the hard part would be finding the amber in a small bead size.

I *think* we have beading stores here where you can go and use their tools and stuff. You just select your beads and clasps and everything, and then you can string them up and all of that. I know we used to have a place like that. I'm not sure if it's still open.

Do you have a place like that there? I'm sure they'll totally help you get it all put together once you choose what you want.

thank you everyone! I ended up buying a crystal cross and using amber-colored real crystal to create the necklace. i also did not buy any special tools. It was perfect!
