Does anyone do this? I am a scrapbook virgin but it has always interested me.

You guys know I am going home in August and I would like to surprise my mum with a scrapbook of wonny from birth to present but don't know how to go about it, what supplies are needed, how hard it is.etc. Do I just buy coloured card and put a hole punch through it and tie with ribbon to make a book or do they have premade blank books that I decorate?

I am planning a trip to hobby lobby and Michaels tomorrow just to look around and maybe buy some stuff.

Any tips, hints, advice would be appreciated

Recollections is a really cool store. They even have classes and times where you can just use their equipment and stuff.

There's one in Frisco and one in Dallas.

I've been scrapbooking for about 7 years. It's terribly addicting. I just don't have the time to work with it. In all that time, I've completed 3-4 books. I never have started a book for the dogs, which I have been planning to do for almost 5 years now. I have never started Alison's, either.

My best advice:
a) look at other's books for inspiration, there's no law against copying layouts
b) go to a crop or two or three, or do your own. My creative juices really flow at those the most, and you can borrow everyone else's goodies and tools.
c) don't limit yourself.. find your own style. Creative Memories has GREAT stuff, but they are very nazi-like in their 'style'.

I think I have some books online if you wanted to see them, but I suck. twopeasinabucket.com is a great website for layout examples. The people who post there are brilliant.

I love scrapbooking, but go through spells where I do it a lot and others when I never make time for it. I wish I had kept up with it from when my son was first born. Starting out, basics such as cardstock, paper cutter, adhesive and a few good pens work well. I slowly add to my collection as I become more familiar with a technique.

I think the only think you need to worry about is that the paper is acid free (to preserve photos) but most scrapbooking stuff should be like that now-a-days.

I know that I started with creative memories...and it is expensive...but they have workshops and support and even a whole album set-up...where you basically just add pictures. Depends on how much time you want to invest and how creative you are.

Do you know I haven't scrapbooked since I moved back to Michigan. :indiff:

I went to hellmart and bought a scrapbooking magazine which shows ideas and how to do it and what is needed. Once I read that I will go to hobby lobby and see what they have. I have planned out several pages in my head and know what pictures I want to use so it just depends if I can get over my no skill to make something.

In your case...try it. If you can do it...cool. If not, why not find a representative, because they walk you through it at first. :)

I wish I lived by you. I would come over for a scrapbooking party.

that would be so much fun. I decided I want to try it this week as Narong leaves tomorrow morning for Michigan, he's going to be gone 6 days so I need something to take up my time once wonny goes to bed so i don't sit and watch tv all day.

sounds like a PERFECT time for a craft project, you can let it sit out and have little paper scraps on the floor without worrying about it.

I'm more of a card making stamping person that accidentally crossed the line into scrapbooking. I've only done 2 or three for myself, but I've made 2 baby books for the SILs and have a 3rd one to get started on.

Like Dar said, two peas in a bucket website is absolutely wonderful.

Here's a direct link to one of my friends pages there. I worked with her in Michigan (in a non-scrapbooking capacity) and she had lots of clients that she actually produced pages/books for and teaches classes out of someone elses's scrapping store. She's a genius at this stuff. Also, her pages are/or are almost exclusively of her son.

I've found that I really like the 6"x6" book format. it allows for some really easy page layouts where you can just place one photo on it and be practically done, as opposed to trying to figure out a lot of balance problems associated with having a 12x12 or even a 8.5x11..

As you look into scrapbooking I would encourage you to try going to a scrapbooking demonstration at michaels, creative memories, etc.

by seeing someone demonstrate it can be a bit less overwhelming. The isles of stuff just make me crumble...I need plans with stuff that is easy to find OR is already put in a kit for me.

I like the QVC kits. Their cheaper than the stores and many times come in KIT form - good for me.

Just watch for the acid free on everything. It is key keeping those photos from fading.

Not a scrapper, but I have done some stamping. Do you have any pics of your cards on line? I would love to see them. Do you belong to any stamping boards? I have 100's of stamps and am in need of some serious inspiration!

There is a BB for stampers and scrapbookers called Two Peas in a Bucket or something like that. My sister got into scrapbooking a while ago and posted there with some of her homies from work. I don't think she posts anymore though. :dunno: They were a nice bunch of laaaaadies from all over. :)

I'm a scrapbook wannabe. I have tons of stuff on my dining room table. I had planned to make a scrapbook of the boys from 2007 for my mom for Christmas, but I'm having problems with getting pictures from the computer. I keep saying, "someday..."
