We did this one today. Fun!

6 stages around the zoo, each with one number, all leading to a lock and lock box under a log.

We saw every part of the zoo.

and we found our first geocoin.

:D We planned to do a zoo multi yesterday, but were too tired. Hopefully we can do it soon.

Our zoo doesn't have one.

:(

Our zoo is run by the metropark sysatem and they are very active in geocaching. They allow 2 caches per park per year (permit given and it is only good for 12 months, then a new cache is put in place and old one pulled)except the zoo-- they do it themselves there.

This sounds so fun. I have passed it on to my sister. They love using their GPS. Perhaps I'll even get to play.

we did a suduko cache and a geometry cache....both of which *I* solved :D

the geometry one was finding the centroid of a triangle....my solution led us right to the cache!!!! Johnny was all impressed with my math skillz.

we had a DNF on a multi-micro-from-hell.....I might ask for a hint and I hate doing that

I am impressed with your math skills too!

I hate asking for hints too. And there is a local cacher, and I usually need one on hers :( And she always rates them 1.5 stars :stars: I always feel like the village idiot, "ummm, its me again, I DNF'ed another, could you point me inthe right direction?"

I'm designing an Origami cache and I need people to test it. I haven't decided on a location yet. In order to get the coordinates you need to make a traditional Japanese Origami crane.

The coords will look something like this:

N 42° 2A.BCD W 071° 07.EFG

Once you create the crane the coords will appear! It's pretty cool if I do say so myself ;)

Here's the square:

Here are instructions: http://www.stacyspace.com/misc/Origami.pdf

Let me know if it works!!!

Very very cool. I don't think I am any good at origami, but I will give it a try. We're outside right now, so it will be a while before I can print it and try it. :)

I found one other cache like this:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=2bf06c13-7f8e-4b1b-bc12-adc0fe3051c8

I didn't see it before I made mine! It's gone now.

Stacey, I missed thi post, if you still need help I will try to fold it right now but I am not great at origami.

We hid a multi in March, not too many finds on it so we went to check on it yesterday day.

There were no weeds when we hid it.

Look how tall they have grown

and it is all thisles  I am going to post a note to wear jeans to this one

we headed out to do 4 yesterday and only managed one

The first was easy, but I was worried about poison ivy since the path was so overgrown.

The second was called mosquito meal. Why didn't that tip me off? OMG  I have never seen so many!! We got within 400 feet and I said screw it, we will come back in the winter when the bugs are gone.

The third was behind a baseball field. There was a game going on. :nono:

and we gave up before we even drove to number four, we just knew it wasn't a good caching night!

so----------

this thread has been so quiet, where is everyone?

We just haven't gone. Pat and I plan on doing a cache night, just us, while the kids are gone this week. But it is going to STORM today, and it is supposed to rain tomorrow also. So maybe Thursday. :)

and then we came home and I scrubbed everyone's legs in the bathtub for about 15 min so scared they would get poison ivy-- but everyone seems ok. I heard that if you scrub within an hour you can avoid it.

Kate

how fun for you and Pat! I have 3 I want to do but the terrain rating is too high (I won't take the kids on a 4 star) so I need to enlist another adult to help me.

Oh! Good tip! Although, I'm not sure if I would know if we even came close to poison ivy/idiot. I guess we should just scrub down whenever we are off a trail.

I have seen pictures but I am not sure I would even recognize it. But the news has said a million times that this year is really bad for PI and everytime we take an overgrown trail in the woods I sort of freak.

They are getting used to having to strip to undies and get their legs scrubbed when we get home

Ok, I've been wanting to try Geocaching for a while and went to REI to look at some GPS units. I got these pictures from the website, but here are the ones I'm considering. I know I've asked before, but which one would y'all go with? The prices I found are all prices I would pay for the right unit.

Magellan Explorist 300; $139.93

We have the bottom one and like it.

Kate

the bottom one is the most recommened. I have an explorist 200, it works but entering everythign but hand on a tiny tiny joystick gets old.

I have the second-to-last one, and it works well for us. :)

Mary Ann
06-20-2006, 12:41 PM
It's between the last two. I found the last one for $119 on Amazon, so I might just go with that.

i have the orange one :)

Johnny has a $300+ garmin model and mine has been more accurate and holds the signal longer than his....more than a few times :right:

His has the cable to download coords but I'm always entering the coords manually in both of our GPSs in the truck on the way out

Lisa

I always enter the coords manually. It is quick and easy to do.

stacyspace
06-20-2006, 12:48 PM
I add little notes when I enter them. I also like to name them by area so they are easier to find. I can never find anything when it's named GWFX123....lol

I totally do not use waypoints. I can't keep all those letters and numbers straight.
