View Full Version : I'm making Sushi tonight
My first time! Anyone made it at home before??? I really stink at making rice so I'm scared I'm going to frick that up.
Just got home from the Asian foods market and got:
Nori
Sushi Rice
Soy Sauce
Rice Vinegar (for the rice)
Ginger
Wasabi
Sesame seeds
Avacado
Crab sticks
Salmon
Cucumber
We are making California Rolls, Cucumber and Sesame rolls, and Salmon and Avacado rolls :eat:

Yes. I have made it at home. Do you have a bamboo mat for making the rolls? Make sure you cover it in plastic wrap before using it or you will have a very hard time cleaning it.
The sushi rice is VERY sticky. Dip your fingers in some water before picking up the rice to spread it on the nori.
Overstuffing is easy to do but after a roll or two you'll figure that out easy enough.
Remember you can put the rice on the outside as well as the inside for some variation.
Have fun with it. It's really not that hard to get the hang of and it is sooooo much cheaper than getting it in a resaurant.
I think Alton Brown did sushi episode.

How was it?
OMG it was so good! It was so much easier than I thought it would be! Some of the rolls we overstuffed and they were really big...but it just takes practice. I was really proud of us! Next time I'll take pictures.
