Okay, I don't cook much, but I need to start. I planned on putting a roast in the crockpot today (2.5 lb sirloin tip roast). All of the recipees I have (in Fix It And Forget It) call for you to put water in there. I don't want it to be like stew. Someone tell me what to do if I want it to turn out like a roast, not a stew. /doesn't trust cookbooks
no water.
I throw it in with chopped onion and garlic, no liquid. turns out great
really?
I always throw it in dry, and there is so much liquid (just from the meat)after it cooks that I can still make gravy.

How about if I want to put potatoes and carrots in there? Do I need a little water for them?

Oh, and do you brown it before you put it in?/totally clueless
Rob always browns, I never too.[/no help]
I have browned before, I have not.
I have put water in, I have not.
I throw veggies in, I don't.
That is the joy of crock pots. They are pretty hard to screw up.

It's in. I put four cubed potatoes, about 20 baby carrots, an onion, and some garlic in the bottom with 1/2 cup of water. Lightly salted and peppered the meat and threw that on top. In about ten hours I will decide if we are going to eat it or not. :D

I always put the roast in, put dry gravy mix on it (the powder that comes in the packets), and put the vegetables all over it. (no water)
It never turns out dry.

I got this hint about cooking a whole chicken
Make a few aluminum "balls" and place the chicken on top of that..with a little bit of water at the bottom!!

Confession: I don't love my crockpot. *ducks*
I think it's cuz I'm home all day. By the time it's time to eat, I'm so sick of smellin' it all day.
*braces for the whipping*
Becca-- I plug it in on the deck. I don't want to smell it all day either.

I'm hoping that's how it works for me, I could stand to eat smaller dinner portions. ;)
But I don't plan to be home all day today, I want to go out and about with Max. I just don't know what we're going to do yet.

Yup, I sit it ontop of the airconditioner  no one ever sees it and it is out of reach of the nieghbor's dog.

Sonny, you put it on "low" right?
Yep!
Like Red said, you really can't screw up a crockpot.

I love to mix a tiny bit of water (just enough to mix) with an envelope of onion soup mix. And I throw in some worechestershire (No clue how to spell that one) sauce. I comes out YUUUMMMMMY and the meat is falling apart.

It's looking pretty good, and smelling great. I only added a half cup of water, but the vegetables are completely covered, so I will use less/none next time. I am glad I put the meat on top, as it is not in the liquid at all. I don't like "boiled" meat. :nono:
SalsaN'Ritas--next time I'm using your recipee, I love worwhateversauce. :eat:
