View Full Version : This week in geocaching 4/24/06
:D forgot to start a new thread.
My new one went up today.

We just did a 2.3 mile walk to the one in the park that was missing.
He moved it to a less busy area, a little screw on top pop up thing that is stuck in the ground.
When we got there the top was off and the container was on the ground. This one just isn't meant to be. We put it back and I emailed him, warning him.
So, what have you been finding? Any good? :popcorn?
I finally found the one I DNF'ed 4 times. It was in a hole that I looked in 134987513098475902387450923875 times before. :bang: but the hole was so much deeper, and turned to the right-- and it was a largeg (12x12 lock and lock box!) I felt dumb but I am glad it is offically off the list.
I had a FTF yesterday,a nd the prize was a set of TB tags  We are setting it out this weekend-- along with the tags from Sonny. Rob is working Sunday and we are cahing most of the day-- finding 2 and hiding 3.
I promised the kids I would hide one each for them.
So-- I am hiding a series of the "MKC" (my kids caches):
MKC- the oldest- caching buddies-- Manda found a tiny stuffed dog about 3 months ago, she says it is her caching buddy and puts it inher pocket everytime we go. So this cache will be full of little stuffed animals
MKC-the middle-all the balls-- Dan is obsessed with sports right now, so this one is full of 15 mini balls, all kinds.
MKC- the youngest--Drive a monster truck-- Mike's is full of trucks/hot wheels.
the kids also wanted to hide a dog themed one for Sooner, but I am out of cash!
So, what do you have planned?

I'm doing one tonight along the Mystic River....maybe I'll bump into Sean Penn.
It rained all day yesterday so we didn't get a change to go anywhere.
I have a kid today, and Cliff is going to dig up the yard I think. So, probably not today either.
I like your MKCs. :D Brandon is so excited to hide one. So is Cliff.

Thats a great idea about the MKC's!
It had been raining ALL weekend....we want to go geocaching today after school, i'm trying to find one that won't be TOO muddy. :indiff:
Josh actually brought it up!

I think Max and I will go by ourselves on Friday.

Kate, you guys have hidden a lot!
Anna can't wait to hide one. I think that will be our summer project, finding locations etc.
We are actually out of ones within walking distance I think. :D

I am super tempted to hide a micro in my front yard, but I'm worried the coordinates would be off and people would search in my neighbor's yard.
We thought about hiding one in our yard.
I was worried about people being afraid of being watched.
Cliff wanted to set up a webcam of them looking for it.

Cliff wanted to set up a webcam of them looking for it.
That would be great! I suppose it wouldn't be possible to do that if you hid it somewhere else, huh?
He got the idea after we searched and searched for the missing one. We knew we looked stupid. He was sure they did it on purpose for a laugh.
We said he was going to start a webcam and call it geolaughing.

We tried to start a multi last night and couldn't find the first stage.
The clue is "vinyl raincoat" which STILL makes no sense to me.
vinyl raincoat? :dunno: Is there a statue in a park or something?
Michele
04-27-2006, 09:09 AM
Nope. It was an interesting park...it's like an old historic village, has lots of buildings. (that you can't enter)
But...the coordinates took me no where near them. Just trees/stumps and a couple of electrical boxes.
I really want to try this cache, because of the comments....but now I'm afraid if I can't even find the first part.

OK-- this is just a guess, you said there are elecetric boxes. IS there a large vinyl sticker on it? It could be a magnet they put on the box, pull it off, the back will have the cooridinates printed on it.

If it doesn't rain today, Max and I are going to try to be FTF at a new one about 3-4 miles away. :D

No, it's down a highway from here. But it's in a park, so there will be some walking.
Kate, what forum do you visit?
Is it the one on geocaching.com?
I visit the one at geocaching.com, and also small local one (for north east ohio) called geochums.com

we did two wednesday night :D
on was a magnet on a bridge with coords written on it that we tried to find 5 times. I swear we went over every square inch of that railing and didn't find it. All of a sudden, after we log another DNF, it turns up
the other one was our first triangulation cache. That one was the three dunkin donuts - pics were posted with red x's over where you needed to mark the coords...then you had to find where they crossed. It was great :D
Bored. I was just reading about the Off Your Rocker caches at the Cracker Barrels.
There is one on the ext we take to go get B. :D
:D
Have fun! Do you have him this weekend?

LMAO! Jordan just got himself ready (we're going geocaching) Nice boots with shorts and slicked hair. :indiff: The cheesey smile just completes the look. ;)

Please tell Jordan that I need a geobuddy. And tell him to bring the little one too. :D
:right: Here are some pics for our trip last week.

I'm sure you'll notice the trend. :D
Oh and that's my baby sister. She's lovely when she's not being a stinker.
Shouldn't she be carried thru the dirt, not the pavement?
:nono: I don't know what the deal is. She's always playing "damsel in distress."
Alex was actually carrying her to begin with, but put her down to avoid a picture.

I can't see the first pic. :(
It's the same one pretty much. :D It was just a slightly different angle.
 This guy's caches are freaking me out.

OMG!
we are off to do 2. This is the first time I am bringing Manda's best friend. She seems athletic, hope she doesn't whine and ruin it for me, it is 3 mile hike and the way out is VERY steep (not dangerous, just a thigh killer!)
I am trying to include kid's friends, but in my heart I want to just be a hermit with my own kids.

You're a good mom. :)
Last night when the kids were sitting with us by the fire I mentioned how one of my memories was camping with my family and having fires.
Jordan said when he grew up his best memory would be geocaching. Thanks again Kate :)

It's been raining non-stop since Friday morning! I NEED a geocaching fix!
 so much easier with my own kids but I know I need to include friends more often. But we had to cross a river on a downed tree. The tree was wider then a city sidewalk. (the cache page even gave the coords to the "natural bridge") There was no danger what so ever.
She told me she was going to throw up :jack: if she had to cross.
I talked her into it and she did it holding my hand. And she was pretty proud of herself. But she talks NONSTOP. Never stopped fopr 3 hours.
I am not sure how I could deal if one of my kids was a total drama queen.
ok, enough complaining. We hit 2 today. :D
It was rainy and blah here today.
I haven't found anything since Monday.
I am so ready.
:indiff: I would not have crossed that fake, wanna-be bridge. No.Way./chicken shit
So. The cache Russ picked ended up being pretty cool. It was a 2.5, but the wrong trail we took was, I'm sure, a 100. :indiff: It was a nice hike (climb :indiff:), and I only had one or two panic attacks on the way down. We finally got back to the right trail and hiked down to the lake. It was soooo beautiful. It was too difficult of a climb down for Maggie (me) so we stayed back. Then we changed our minds and caught up with the boys. :D Totally fun. I'm glad I didn't bitch about it, like I was so tempted to do this morning. My ass and legs are going to hurt so bad tomorrow. :D
 I am so glad you went and even better that Maggie ended up climbing down too!
REally, you wouldn't have crossed a 3 ft wide tree? The river below was only 1' deep.
Sonny
05-01-2006, 09:48 AM
I would have crossed also, Kate. :)
We didn't do any last week. :(
My parents will be here next weekend so we are hoping to take them caching, I think my dad will love it.
I would have crossed. Cautiously.
I really want to take my parents' caching. They are very outdoorsy people. They like to hike. :indiff:
