View Full Version : Crock-Pot Question
I just read the following crock-pot tip on another site. Does anyone know why it would be necessary to put the water under the bag?
"Add one cup water to the bottom of your crockpot. Then insert one Turkey bag (the ones you use for roasting oven bag), fold edges over the outside of crock-pot so that is has been lined with the turkey bag. Add ingredients and cook your fav recipe as normal.
After you are through just throw away the bag - or- if there are left overs just tie it up and put the in the fridge for later use."
Um. No, I really don't. Cooking in the juice is what makes the meat fall off the bone juice.
My thought, too.
Thanks, Red!

The only thing I can think of is the person thinks the bag might stick to the bottom of the crockpot and wants to put some water there to prevent that. :dunno:

That might be it, and if that is the reason, I would just give the bottom a quick spray of Pam or something like that.

Perhaps the oven bags arent 100% leak proof and it keeps the juices from running out and crusting on the bottom of the crock pot?
Or perhaps the water throws off steam and helps keep it moist without watering down the meat and other ingredients?
Or the water warms up and creates a double-boiler kind of effect and cooks the turkey better/faster?

I am not sure why add the water, but the steam aspect sounds reasonable.
Just wanted to add, I have used the crockpot liners, they are awesome.
