View Full Version : How much food?
We are planning on buying pulled pork from our favorite restaurant to have at Alison's party, then have buns on hand for those that want to make it into sandwiches. We'll also buy some different potato salads.
In addition, I'd like to get the following:
- veggie tray
- fruit/cheese tray
- deviled egg tray
My question is this: They make those trays in various sizes. 16-20 ppl and 20-25 ppl for example. Now, if I have 25 adults, I don't need to get each tray in the larger size, do I? We were thinking the smaller size, since we are getting several trays, plus having the sandwiches and potato salad. Not to mention cake.
Rob's theory is always "but then we'll have leftovers!" Yeah, I don't want 10 pounds of leftovers.
Any party experts have ideas?

Same here, I always have too much, or run out too soon.
I would definitely get the deviled eggs in the larger size, because it's not like someone could take a smaller portion if you started to run low...
Maybe you could just buy some extra grapes and strawberries to fill up the fruit tray if needed.
I would rather get too much and have leftovers (take them to work, men at work will eat anything) than to not have enough. I get anxious when there doesn't seem to be enough.
LOL, oh yeah, we'll have LOTS of pork. Rob wants to get a pound per person and I think that's way too much. But I know it will get eaten.
Sonny, we were thinking the same thing... get the larger size of deviled eggs. Who doesn't like deviled eggs?! :D
a lb pre person :thud: NO WAY!
But you could make it and use a low-carb bbq and freeze it for meals-- we use pork from our hog roast for about 5 months after.
I would say at most 1/2 per person.--- they men may eat more but the women won't. and they will balance eachother.
I know, Kate. I thought 1/2 lb per person, too, but he wants the leftovers. Since I will be the one ordering, I'll ask the restaurant what they think. :right: He'll get over it.
just don't tell him  rip the little label off and throw it in the crockpot/serving dish-- it will still look like a ton of food!

Good luck, I always figure it is better to have extra then not enough. Men sure do love them some left overs huh?

Hmmmmm, me thinks there isn't such a thing as too much food!!! :D
I agree with the others, the lg platters. People tend to not eat before coming in anticipating the food you will be serving. And, they seem to eat more at these types of events ~ there are always "grazers" that will hang around the food table.

I also always overplan food. One good thing is that you could always pull the fruit and veggie trays back out after all the festivities for the late stayers to munch on. For that matter, you could pull the pork out again for sandwiches.

I would do 1/4 pound of pork for the women and children and 1/2 pound of pork for the men. 1.5 deviled eggs per person. Small veggie tray with extra bag of carrots, small fruit tray. 2 ~24 oz. containers of potato salad. And I would add a bag of Wavy Lays.

Like who?
;)
The party's at 4. I hope they come hungry.
Dar, be sure to pick up plastic storage containers like Ziploc or Glad brands for packing up leftovers for yourself and to send home with guests.
