I have no idea how to use my broiler. None. I used a broiler once over 10 years ago and set off the smoke alarm. Haven't touched one since.

The only thing I use mine for is toast. :dunno:

Here is something else.....I have a gas oven. It has one of those pull out drawers on the bottom. Sometimes I guess that's a broiler :dunno: I have no idea if mine is or not. I just store cookie sheets in there.

I use mine sometimes. Mostly for nachos. :dunno:

the broiler is the heating coils on the top of the oven...at least in an electric oven. I don't have experience with a gas oven.

I know electric ovens are like that....that's what I almost burned the apt down with all those years ago. But the gas ovens.....no clue. if I see a recipe that tells me to broil something....I move on to the next recipe.

Oh, well, toast happens to be my specialty. Making toast in the toaster is for amateurs. Toast is really good if you butter the bread and then toast it under the broiler. You can make a whole bunch of "grilled" cheese sandwiches at the same time that way. Or sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon for cinnamon toast. Or add a little garlic powder and parmesan cheese for garlic toast (although garlic toast is best made with a split french loaf. You can also butter baguette slices. Call it "crostini" - your friends will be amazed! :D

We lived in a house with a gas range and oven one time. I couldn't even boil water on that freaking thing and I don't know what that drawer thing is about.

Lizz, the broiler is easy.

You just have to remember to watch it so it doesn't burn.

It is the same as using the oven, only the heat is only at the top.

I broil stuff all the time (but mine is electric)... the trick to the smoke thing.

You know how you can open your oven, and it will catch at about 2 inches? And stay there? If I prop it open like that while broiling, it doesn't get smokey.

I know that makes no sense, but I swear it's true. Ask my husband!

I LOVE my gas stove.

Lizz, broilers can be either at the top of the oven or in that drawer in a gas stove. Take everything out of the drawer, turn the broiler on and see where it gets hot.

Allison's right about smoke free broiling.

Make sure you keep a close eye on things when broiling. The broiler gets very hot so things cook quickly.

Some things that call for broiling can be done on the BBQ instead.

I love broiling... it gives meat such a different flavor, I think. Baked food is so bland.

Bob and Tom! :D  Before they were syndicated. ;)

I use my broiler alot. What are you trying to broil? It's just like an upside down gas grill. /Alton

:agree: Rob introduced me to them "way back when". They aren't the same as they used to be. I  Chick McGee. They used to be on a radio station down here until the station changed format.
