I just shocked Johnny by suggesting that we do a 6-part 5 mile hike on saturday  It's going to be 59 and sunny out!
this one:

and I did this one on my cruise in Grand Cayman:
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=51e14277-fca5-4a33-a768-4199dbe8e02a
I'm completely hooked on this...I can't wait for the summer :D
We are doing a 7 parter!
There are 6 listed and each is named a miniature dog breed (this one is mini bull terrier) and each contains one part of the cooridinates for the last one-- The great Dane :D
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a32e8683-2892-428b-80eb-47d3c4e66ab4
It will take us 3 or 4 trips to get it all done since I cache with a 9,7, and 5 yr old.
I will check out your caches when I get back from taking Mike to preschool-- how fun that you did one in the Caymen Islands!!
We attemped some this past weekend but only managed to find http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=8c806bd0-2d85-43d2-8d2d-9661aa4b36cb that one.
We were going for another, I really hoped to find it as I had never had a first to find, but the road was busy and sort of danergous. It was hidden by a guy with only 2 finds. Well, someone else found itthe next day-- he hid an empty cache!!! My kids would have been pissed!!
I sent my parents the info on this that Kate wrote up. Pretty much summed it up, right? They love doing stuff outdoors and I figured it would be good to do with the g-kids.
She said to figure it all out then talk to her. SHe didn'thave time.

I really want to start doing this too, I checked the websites and there are sooooo many within five miles of our house.
Pat has a TomTom, it's a GPS, but it gives driving directions/maps. I don't know if it can be used the way a regular GPS can be used. I will have to check it out.

We did a huge 10 part series that went for 27 miles along an old canal system from the Boston area. That one took a few weekends (and mostly at night with flashlights  we tend to get a late start - lol) I learned a lot about the area from that one.
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=fa9e6ab2-f0e7-45f9-9373-fb6f79bff8f9
We couldn't find the very first one we tried to do  and tried 2 more times. I think we're going to try AGAIN this weekend.
It must be so much fun to do with kids! Johnny and I turn into hyper 8 yr olds when we find one
What a looza with the empty cache.
I keep forgetting to get little trinkets to leave. We just sign the logbook. I'm definitely getting something for the 5 mile one!!!

if you can plug in coordinates I bet it will work. The one we use can be used for both driving and hiking.

so, you didn't burn up in hell? :D
I tried to check on-line about using a tomtom for geocaching
http://www.mytomtomgo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5121
It didn't look promising.
Mac, is there anyone you know that boats and might have one?

I just put this cache in google earth:
Medford's Famous and Infamous

http://www.geocaching.com/images/icons/compass/W.gifW 1.2mi from your home coordinates.
This is a 4 part virtual cache. The listed coordinates will take you to the first part. This is not quite a drive by cache and will require a little walking. Parking should not be much of a problem at any of the locations.
Part 1. You’ll be standing near a tree in the courtyard of an apartment building. Until her death in 1998, here once lived a woman who was the sister of a very famous American. Many of the local folks would know the answer to this. To get to the 2nd part, look for the coordinates on the tree a few feet away or the nearby fire hydrant.
Part 2. You will be at the monument of a very famous performer. There are also some nice views from this hill. To get to the 3rd part just add 0.637 to the north coordinate and subtract 0.612 from the west coordinate.
Part 3. You should be in Medford Square at the site of an old tavern where a famous song was composed. A plaque commemorates this location. You may want to have lunch or a fresh muffin at one of the local restaurants.
Part 4. To get here from part 3 you must go east 645 meters and north 109 meters. You'll be at a plaque commemorating an infamous actress, who graduated from Medford High. To get credit for the 4 part cache you must email me with the following:
The name of the famous American and for what she was famous, the name of the famous performer and where he performed, the name of the famous song and the name of the tavern in which it was composed and finally, the name of the infamous actress and the first names of both her parents.
This is what Google Earth showed - you can see the tree...we got the next coords on the fire hydrant!:

Well, the TomTom won't work for this, if it will, we don't know how to do it.
BUT I have come up with a solution. Every month one of the four of us us gets to pick a fun family activity that costs less than $100. I saw some GPS units at Target for $99.99, and I have a 10% off coupon. So, when it is my month (May) that is what I am choosing. :)
Can't wait! I think the kids are going to love this!

Thanks for the tip!
eta: I might get that Target $10 GC from BzzAgent. Maybe I can convince Josh that I need it for homeschool.
Wow Stacy! You're a pro!!!!
Now I feel like *I* need a GPS.

Oh...both Pat and I are bzzagents now, we could get two Target giftcards! With the 10% off that would bring it down to $69.99 before tax! I'm definitely going to do that! Thanks!

You do need it! I learned that Jingle Bells was composed at a Tavern in Medford, MA.

So is Josh...but I don't think he has that campaign.
Did you see this deal in the store? Or online?

See...yeah! I haven't been able to convince him of the virtues of Gecaching yet. Even though, sometime he and the kids go on walking "Adventures". I think he just doesn't get it.

Start with letterboxing then. That's free and geared more towards a younger age group.

I looked online. I don't know the prices in the store, but I do know the store is carrying some.
Pat has the Arby's campaign, and the Atkins campaign, I guess I don't remember which campaign had the Target giftcards.

I just checked...it's Arby's, and yes, Josh has it. :right:

No. I do that.
I haven't gotten my Arby's bzzkit yet, but I counted the buzz for free chicken tender day.
Sonny
03-10-2006, 12:19 PM
Oh, good point. He can definitely use that, I told him about the free chicken tender, and he and some coworkers went and got some. :D
Uh, he knows I signed him up as a bzzzagent, but he will probably never go to the website, it's kind of just me!
